Minuscule

Minuscule is the brainchild of ukulelist Laurel Minnes, harnessing the power of an all-female choir plus band to create a powerful new form of pop music. Since their 2018 debut performance with a sold-out set at In the Soil Festival, Minuscule has continually clapped, stomped and meowed their way into winning over every audience they’ve met. Drawing comparisons to the weaving melodies of Imogen Heap and moving experience of Choir!Choir!Choir!, Minuscule’s unforgettable live performances and vocal workshops are making choral music cool again.

The debut album Great, co-produced by Minnes and Joe Lapinski of WOW! Recording Studio (Ron Sexsmith, Sarah Harmer, Woodshed Orchestra) was released February 2020. The 10 tracks encompass a genre-bending blend of intricate five-part vocal harmonies and emotionally stirring, tongue-in-cheek lyricism – and features title track Great, which secured Minnes’ Songwriter of the Year at the Niagara Music Awards and was featured on CBC’s Q. They have collaborated with Juno and Polaris nominated artists spanning many genres; from the wistful indie-folk group Great Lakes Swimmers, to the epic heavy-music duo Vile Creature – the latter for which Minnes received a Juno nod for her choral arrangements.
