Mip Power Trio
With catchy hooks and an unbridled energy, the Mip Power Trio has developed a “raw and wild” eclectic underground rock n roll sound that champions life’s whimsy and absurdity. Mip’s songwriting has been deemed “witty, cutting, astute and quirky” as she delves into often personal narratives that are layered with nuance and humour. Through years of playing dive bars and remote music festivals the band has earned a reputation amongst loyal fans who hail them as Toronto’s best kept secret.
The Mip Power Trio formed in 2010 less than a year after Mip landed in Toronto, alone, with a suitcase and 2 guitars determined to prove that a small town kid from rural northwestern BC could show the city a thing or two about how to wail. After scouring open mics and punk havens she joined forces with bassist Greg Kowalczyk and drummer Devin Janetta. The trio embodies a punchy rock n roll pastiche that could loosely be described as Janice Joplin fronting 90s Green Day with the spirited lyrics of early Springsteen.
